Flap Ema Tomašek

Project description
The Flap chair is a result of research into the formal and structural possibilities of surfaces. In this case, the surfaces are made of wood and steel: a shell made of veneer press and flat steel legs, shaped by bending a steel sheet at an angle. The robust metal legs contrast the delicate visual quality of the wood and also have folds that serve as support for the wooden shell, following the same design sensibility. The legs are almost oversized and very pronounced, giving a sense of stability. The chair is conceived as a kind of sculpture in the home and an ode to brutalism, but in a way that invites interaction, inviting one to sit while providing comfort despite its geometric character.
