Designing Motherhood Lana Cavar, Natasha Chandani
Project description
The book documents more than 80 objects and notions that deal with women’s reproductive health. From the ubiquitous and iconic to the uncanny, the topics in the book are organized into four chapters (reproduction, pregnancy, birth and post-partum), which are emphasized by changes in the width of the same, content-appropriate typography that suggests the female body in the process of changing – from “ordinary” (regular) type style in the reproductive phase, to the widest (expanded) style for the birth chapter, and back. The dominantly textual content of the book is interrupted by pages with visual essays that talk about the topic through photographs and illustrations and suggest a parallel narrative of the book.
