Ply Eva Rodinis

Ply is a multi-layered object transforming through interaction. It explores the sustainable potential of veneer for maximizing the use of high-quality timber, rethinking how wood veneer as a typically surface material can have a new structural materiality. With changing functions and experiences, Ply follows patterns seen in nature. It is explored with time as a portable easy-to-assemble companion in personal rituals — engaging the body and mind as a chair, swing, shade, basket or reflection stool. Joining contrasting properties of a solid plywood shell with flexible veneer layers results in complex movement — adjusting to the body in rest and supporting it in connection to the environment.
