Homo Aquaticus: HABITAT ST21 Ivica Mitrović, Oleg Šuran

Project description
The project reflects the reality of the city of Split, torn between unplanned tourism and the influx of people on one side and the rushing climate changes on the other. It explores possible implications of global climate, technological, economic, and political futures in the local context of the Adriatic. Focusing on the utopian underwater habitats and near-future communities, as well as local, micro-models of resilience, it reflects about the man’s possible return to the sea, inspired by Coustea’s idea of a Homo Aquaticus. The project speculates about places that are not the points of utopian resets, but places for transitioning the present towards new, different identities and collective futures of the city.
