Otherness Studio Glazar

The exhibition Otherness at the Kortil Gallery explores the concept of otherness through a selection of works by leading domestic artists, offering a new perspective and potential interpretations of pieces created from the second half of the 19th century onwards. The concept of NMMU delves into uncovering and interpreting social preconditions, artists’ self-censorship, and the significance of gender and sexual identity in creative expression, addressing issues of feminism, decolonization, and gender and LGBTQI+ theory. The choice of key visuals—Black Woman with Butterflies by Milivoj Uzelac and Seve-Red by Željko Badurina—was based on the principle of contrasting the old and the new, the historical and the contemporary.
