Lana Cavar

Lana Cavar is a co-founder of the former Cavarpayer studio, which was active on the Croatian design scene in the late 1990s and recognized primarily for its work in the cultural sector. She graduated from the School of Design at the University of Zagreb and earned a master’s degree in Visual Communication Design from Yale University (USA). In collaboration with Danielle Aubert and Natasha Chandani, she published Thanks for the View, Mr. Mies (Metropolis, 2012), a bestselling title in the fields of architecture and design. Through the collaborative platform CLANADA, she has carried out projects for New York’s MoMA, MOCAD Detroit, Berlin’s HAU Hebbel am Ufer, and publications for MIT Press, Princeton University School of Architecture, Phaidon, and the Museum of Fine Arts Boston. For years, she has collaborated with Narcisa Vukojević on numerous projects for Croatian clients, and together they initiated projects such as Excavations: Judge a Book by Its Cover and The Production of Signs, Signs of Production, which explore the under-researched heritage of Croatian design from 1950 to 1990. She has received numerous international and national design awards, including multiple awards from the Croatian Designers Association, ZGRAF exhibitions, the American Institute of Graphic Arts (AIGA), the Alice Kimball English Fellowship from Yale, and a nomination for the United States Artists Fellowship. She lives and works in Zagreb, where she has developed long-term collaborations with 3LHD architects, the Croatian National Theatre in Zagreb, Maistra, publishing house Oceanmore, Pliva, and many others.
