MEMENTO MORI Studio Kazinoti & Komenda

Project description
The exhibition builds on the permanent display of the Archaeological Museum Split, guiding visitors through the story of inhabitants with whom we share the same space but not time. Funerary customs and lifestyles of that era are shown through artifacts found in graves. A spatial installation was created to display 615 graves excavated from the Western Necropolis during 1986-1987. Each grave is symbolized by a metal plate, reflecting the souls of the deceased and honoring them. The visual identity is based on Roman mosaics of cheerful skeletons and humorous inscriptions, depicting death more vibrantly. The black color symbolizes the asphalt covering Salona and serves as a reminder of culturicide.
