Project description
Oaza Books is an independent publishing initiative of Oaza Art and Design Organisation on contemporary art and design with the idea of producing, promoting and distributing publications that offer a critical and interdisciplinary approach to work and content. Oaza Books has been developing through 4 editions since 2017: 1) oBook includes research, experimental, critical and theoretical publications; 2) aBook represents a unique edition of books by artists on the Croatian scene; 3) Oaza&Sons aims to produce intelligent and inspiring illustrated art books for children and adults; 4) Oaza&Friends presents co-editions in which members of Oaza participate as designers.
NOMINATION FOR CROATIAN DESIGNERS ASSOCIATION GRAND PRIX
Explanation by the Selection Committee
This fearless project gave the designers the opportunity to create an engaged interdisciplinary platform of activity unencumbered by the limitations that designers normally face in their work. The choice of collaborations, the selection of topics, the artistic approach, design and insistence on top-quality
non-confectionery work together raise the book production far above similar ones in contemporary
publishing. In addition, it is worth praising the departure from the narrow framework of design
practice characterized by the existence of the client into the market battle, where the designers are
repeatedly overpowered by everything, except the superior quality of their product.
