French writer Annie Ernaux often uses writing as a way of reliving and making sense of traumatic emotions. In A Woman’s Story she’s dealing with the death of her mother. Happening is written forty years after her abortion, sifting through memories and journal entries, gleaning the meanings of her experience. Cover design plays on the relationship between forgetting, writing and remembering — a central white void is covering both the name and the title.
