Memorial room to the Karlovac war veterans killed in the Homeland War Nikolina Jelavić Mitrović
Project description
The memorial room for the fallen from Karlovac during the Homeland War is located in Turanj and has an area of 42 m2. It’s a place for meditation with a sitting bench; a somber atmosphere is created by the semi-darkness and the steel sheets that line the room. The biographical information about the fallen is carried by thirty five vertical steel panels and two hundred eighty vertical glass bricks. They are set up to form two illuminated fields whose intensity changes in a very slow rhythm; these two fields outline the territory of the Republic of Croatia and the surrounding areas. Above each brick there is an area to place a paper flower created by children in educational workshops where they learn about the importance of peace. A thin ray of light shines through an opening in the steel ceiling.
