Shadow Citizens — Želimir Žilnik Dejan Kršić

Project description
The book Shadow Citizens—Želimir Žilnik is the result of an exhibition realized in 2018 by the curatorial collective What, How & for Whom/WHW in Edith-Russ-Haus for Media Art, Oldenburg. Bilingual English-German edition offers an insight into the radical film practice of Želimir Žilnik (1942). From beginnings in the amateur film scene of SFRY in the 1960s, Žilnik has made more than fifty films dealing with social problems, the theme of guest workers, the maladies of the post-socialist transition, and migrations. The notion of “shadow citizens”, which refers to different minorities, Žilnik understands as a possibility to imagine a new concept of citizenship, which transcends existing borders.
