Damir Karakaš: The Celebration Lana Cavar & Narcisa Vukojević

The acclaimed Croatian author Damir Karakaš goes back to his roots of Lika, a region in Croatia tucked away in the mountains. This novel brings us three generations of peasants in their small village, led by a protagonist who in the aftermath of the WWII, finds himself on the losing side of Ustasha regime. The book is written in the spirit of modernist literature during the post-war decades. The design was inspired by books from the same period, and the custom lettering on the cover interprets local folk ornamentation while evoking the feel of nationalistic symbols. The novel has been recognized by Croatian media as the book of the decade
