Djuro’s story Barbara Babić, Zvonimir Medin

In summer 2023, Dezeen teamed up with Samsung to challenge readers to come up with creative ideas for reusing old electronic devices. Entrants from more than 45 countries around the world entered the contest. Among 11 shortlisted designs was the concept of Djuro’s story. Djuro’s story is a speculative story about the transformation of an old Samsung device from 1991 found defective in a recycling yard into a mobile phone charging station powered by solar energy to support life on a Croatian island with limited access to electricity. This concept breathed new life into old technology, transforming the forgotten into into an essential tool with a positive impact on people and the planet.
