Slana - A Radical Landscape Damir Gamulin

Project description
Design of the publication and visuals for the exhibition Slana – A Radical Landscape by Davor Konjikušić, Goran Andlar and Nika Petković at the Gallery Nova. The exhibition presented a multi-year artistic research into the history and characteristics of the landscape of the Slana bay on island of Pag which was the location of an Ustasha concentration camp. In response to today’s rare and hard-to-see traces of suffering that the project explores, the design emphasizes the theme of emptiness in the small format of the pages, with the content widely distributed across the publication. The landscape photos themselves are not re-composed in the layout, but rather indicate with a simple gesture that the book itself is a landscape. The video work, which is one of the results of artistic research, is placed in the dark projection space in the publication, showing several frames in a sequence and suggesting the sequential character that the space takes on in the video.
