Lina Bo Bardi: Material Ideologies Lana Cavar, Natasha Chandani

Project description
With a multiple layers of content, the book presents new perspectives from leading contemporary artists, architects, curators and scholars on architect Lina Bo Bardi. Contributors engage with the conceptual, social and political philosophies latent in the materials Bardi chose—from her application of concrete to her implementation of nature and reuse of vernacular materials. Using brutalism as an inspiration and the paradoxes present in Bardi’s practice, the designers designed a layout based on spatialy determined hierarchy. The right page always carries the primary content (essays, artist’s work), while the left page carries supporting information (images, captions, footnotes). The layout system is rigid yet it enables organic, unexpected design.
