The Mascaron Speaks Niko Mihaljević

Project description
The graphic materials of the designer’s own solo exhibition at MSU Zagreb were based on the conceptual photographic portrait of its main protagonist – the mascaron, a gargoyle dating from the 2nd century BC and an object from the museum’s archaeological collection. The mascaron addressed the audience three times during the course of the exhibition; the text of his speech is contained in the exhibition catalogue. The catalog further fetishizes this museum object. With each page turn, the reader rotates the mascaron by 22.5 degrees, during which it transforms from an anthropomorphic mask to an ordinary expressionless stone and back again.
